I am currently in my 14th year teaching in CPS. I was raised in eastern Iowa and received my B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa, as well as having a reading endorsement, and am currently obtaining my M.A. in Bilingual/ESL. Prior to moving to Chicago in 2003, I lived and taught in Boston. My husband, daughter and I enjoy traveling to warm destinations, as well as everything our great city has to offer, and running daily.
While teaching in the nation's third largest school district, besides being the Technology and Design teacher, I am also a district Framework Specialist, and my school's Tech Coordinator. I have also presented at district wide PD's. Since the beginning of my teaching career, I have proposed and received over 25+ Donor's Choose Grants, which has directly benefited the hundreds of students I have taught over the years.
This year I am teaching all grade levels, pre-k through 8th grade, Educational Technology and Design (IB) at Moos Elementary in the Humbolt Park neighborhood of Chicago.
In 2011, I helped to open the district's first STEM school in the Little Italy neighborhood. There, I taught kindergarten in a self contained classroom, and then departmentalized mathematics to all kindergarteners, while implementing STEM related PBL's throughout the year to my students. While at STEM, some of the great accomplishments were helping my students achieve 100% attainment and ~95% of each class exceeding their projected EOY RIT on NWEA, creating and implementing new school guidelines and procedures, and giving school tours to perspective parents.
My CPS career first started in 2003, I began teaching in the Bridgeport and then South Shore neighborhoods, in a self contained kindergarten classrooms.
