Corridos...
Through our participation with the 1,000 Words program, Ms. Weiss and I were able to give our students the opportunity to meet and work with Juan Dies. He came to Moos to conduct a workshop about corridos. Corridos are a Mexican song that narrates a tragic or heroic event in the life of a real person.
During this workshop, students learned and listened to different corridos and created one as a class. The student's brainstormed and came up with the tragedies of 9/11 and the death of the actor Paul Walker. Following the corrido guidelines, they created 8 stanza songs.

1,000 Words
Ms. Weiss and I were fortunate to be able to be a part of the pilot program "1,000 Words" through The Art Institute of Chicago. The program aims to reach all language learners through the universal language and visuals of art. After completing the PD sessions, our students were given the opportunity to visit the Art Institute for a field trip. Ms. Weiss and I created a scavenger hunt that the students completed during their field trip, searching and interpreting art from the Impressionism, Modern, and Contemporary Art Galleries, that incorporated ELA and Math elements within the art pieces.
Great Behaviors Pay Well in room 210!
Every month, students are given a behavior calendar so they can keep track of their daily choices and reflect on their end of the day color. At the end of each month, students are 'paid' and able to shop from our class store with their earnings of Moos Money.
Student Jobs
Students in my classroom contribute to the management of our transitions and take on leadership roles with their peers. First though, students must apply for those jobs, and advocate for themselves that they are qualified to fulfill the role. Currently, we have Teacher's Assistants, and Time Keepers, as well as line leaders, line captains, and messengers. Students have the opportunity to apply for these position every two weeks.
