Students have been creating and using data and graphs exclusively for our daily math talks. This week students plotted and graphed data about two different restaurants, the weekly customers, and the weather outside during the weeks. As a class, we discussed trends that we saw in the data, and talked about theories as to why those trends may have been happening. Students are continuing to build on their data analysis and fluency when creating, reading, and taking quizzes over their weekly graphs during our math talks. Every Friday the students have a quiz over the data that they take online. Students take the Google Form quizzes I create through logging into Google Classroom, and reading their assignment, and using the appropriate tool (their graphs) to find the answers to the questions.
Students were introduced to a new two dice game they can play during their work plan times. They learned how to play the game battleship, which requires them to plot as well as read coordinates to try to sink their partner's ships.
Before students left for their much deserved Winter break, we started to learn about the first quadrant, and plotting coordinates. Students did a great job plotting the given coordinates, and discovering the winter picture created by connecting the coordinates.
Students have been fully diving into all things geometry! As a culminating project, they created their own geometry towns. To create their geometry towns, they needed to apply the concepts we had gone over to identify the angles their streets made, including transversal angles, placing their map items accordingly, and creating a corresponding key.
Students did a great job designing their towns and showing off their mastery of the geometry we had extensively learned. |
